To love yourself as you are is a miracle! Especially if you are someone who has high expectations and believes everything can be improved upon. I am constantly disappointed…
thinking those around me should be more responsible, disciplined, organized or charitable. When
I’m out of town, I’m certain I will find the perfect restaurant around the next corner
if I just keep driving. Or the belief that if I sign up for the right class, retreat or training, it will complete me. This perpetual seeking, but never being satisfied with what I find, is a recipe for emptiness.
That’s why I am eternally grateful for the practice of meditation and mindfulness. My practice gently reminds me to pay attention to right NOW. It’s in this space that I sense perfection (in terms of the
divine not ego). No improvement necessary…I am fully equipped. When I accept the fullness
of what is, the expectations, judgments and anxiety fall away.
The beauty is, when I practice this often enough, I tend to stay in this space longer and
longer. As a result, I appreciate people more for who they are, I take classes because they
are fun, not because it may fix a personal flaw and I love who I AM in the moment. Truly
a miracle for a perpetually recovering perfectionist.
